1991年に東京大学で工学博士の学位を取得。1987年に東京大学先端科学技術研究センター(RCAST)・光デバイス分野・助手に着任、1991年に同センター・高速電子デバイス分野・講師となった。1993年から1995年まで、ボン大学神経情報研究所（ドイツ）の客員研究員（日本学術振興会・海外特別研究員）として研究を行った。1995年 東京大学先端科学技術研究センター助教授、1999年 同大大学院新領域創成科学研究科基盤情報学専攻助教授を経て、2007年同大大学院電気系工学専攻教授となり現在に至る。この間2006-2008年に宇宙航空開発研究機構(JAXA)宇宙科学研究所(ISAS)客員准教授を併任した。主にニューラルネットワークとワイヤレスエレクトロニクスを中心とする研究を行っている。

現在、IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (CIS) Neural Networks Technical Committee (NNTC) メンバー(2009-)、APNNA/APNNS 理事(2006-), IEEE World Congress on Computational Intelligence (WCCI) 2024 Yokohama 組織・実行委員長などを務めている。IEEEフェロー、IEICEフェロー、JNNSおよび APNNSの会員。

Akira Hirose received the Ph.D. degree in electronic engineering from the University of Tokyo in 1991. In 1987, he joined Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology (RCAST), the University of Tokyo, as Research Associate. In 1991, he was appointed Instructor at RCAST. From 1993 to 1995, on leave of absence from the University of Tokyo, he joined the Institute for Neuroinformatics, University of Bonn, Bonn, Germany. He is currently Professor with the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Systems, the University of Tokyo. The main fields of his research interests are wireless electronics and neural networks.

He currently serves as a member of IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (CIS) Neural Networks Technical Committee (NNTC) (2009-), Vice Chair of the NNTC Complex-Valued Neural Network Task Force (2021-) (Chair 2010-2020) and General Chair of IEEE World Congress on Computational Intelligence (WCCI) 2024 Yokohama.

Dr. Hirose is a Fellow of the IEEE and IEICE, and a member of JNNS, INNS and APNNS.
